CJC® Ion Exchange Filter Inserts are used to neutralise acidic compounds in oil systems where oxidation, thermal stress, or water contamination has led to increased acidity. Acidic oil conditions can accelerate corrosion, promote deposit formation, and significantly reduce lubricity and component life.
These inserts work through adsorption of acidic compounds from the oil and are designed to be used in conjunction with a CJC® Type A or Type B filter insert, ensuring both contaminant removal and chemical stabilisation of the oil.
Ion exchange inserts consist of a polyester needle felt bag filled with specialised neutralising media such as:
Granulated fuller’s earth
Activated alumina
Ion-exchange resin beads
Each material offers specific neutralisation characteristics depending on oil type, operating conditions, and acidity level.
CJC® EC Filter Inserts
Made from fuller’s earth / Attapulgus clay
A natural material used for acidity neutralisation by CJC® since 1966
Effective for reducing acidic compounds caused by oxidation and hydrolysis
CJC® EO Filter Inserts
Manufactured from aluminium oxide
A synthetic neutralisation medium first introduced in 1970
Suitable for applications requiring strong adsorption of acidic compounds
CJC® EL Filter Inserts
Consist of ion-exchange resin beads
Polymeric neutralisation resins designed for targeted acidity reduction
Used where precise chemical neutralisation is required
Selecting the correct CJC® ion exchange insert requires an evaluation of:
Oil type and condition
Acidity level (TAN)
Operating temperature and contamination sources
For this reason, selection should always be carried out in dialogue with C.C.JENSEN or a local CJC® supplier to ensure optimal performance and system protection.
